High mileage WS-6?
A 2000 Trans Am WS-6 ram air with t-tops came up for sell in my home town today, and honestly the exterior, interior, and engine looked very clean. There were a few downsides to it: the ABS light is on, the window motors are weak, it was an auto, but mostly it had 180k miles on it. Overall though the car looked pretty well taken care of. I did talk to the dealer briefly and he seemed to think it was all stock with the original motor.
Do you guys think an LS1 with that many miles is worth the risk? I won't really have a lot of money for getting the thing fixed a lot so reliability is a big concern for me, but I do definitely want an LS1. Honestly I was looking more for an M6, but this car was quite gorgeous and I'm having a hard time passing it up.
His craigslist ad was asking 6.5 for it, and I was considering offering him no more than 5ish or so. Is that fair, or should I go lower/higher?
Thanks!

I was in the same boat -- found a gorgeous WS6, but it was an auto. Test drove the car once and it was so damn much fun we bought it. That was 3 years ago and I have no regrets. As far as the mileage goes, that is up to you as there are things that will break and maintenance items that need to be performed. Look the car over real good and have them put it up on a lift so you can check out the underbody and suspension components.

This is the ad, which isn't very helpful honestly. But I've looked at it in person and it seems in really good condition.
Yeah I'd prefer the M6, though I could live with an auto, but my main concern is just the miles. Though the advantage to that many miles is the WS-6 is actually in my price range. One with a little more conservative mileage ends up being too much for me. I mostly have been looking at Z28s with 130-140k miles, but the WS-6 just looks so nice.
Mainly I just wanted to know what price I should be aiming to get this car for. I did read in other posts about a couple of different guys who got a WS-6 like this one for under 5k.

Black- 00 camaro ss M6 #6695
If it was M6 and askin price around $5000 then yeah.
I think it's kinda high IMO. Could be in GREAT shape still high on price
Mine got it for $4400
M6, black leather interior, good condition, 121k miles,
Abs light on, BROKEN rear end. And messed up passenger side cat.
And needed a full tune up.
The car is great now. But I still feel I got it for a high price.
It's a 00 ss

Navy Blue, Dark Cherry- 98 M6 TA, 87 A4 TA
TA's always go for more than Z's (comperably equipped) I don't think I've ever seen similarly condition/milage Z's go for more than a TA (or SS vs WS6)
There are many who prefer the Z body to the TA but they are the minority, I have nothing against Z's but when I was in the market for my f-body I was willing to pay a little more for a TA over a Z, they cost more from the factory and still hold a little more value (in my not so prefessional opinion). I also believe the production numbers of LS1 Firebirds(TA, Formula, WS6) to LS1 Camaros (Z28, SS) is like 2/3 so they are a little more rare.

Silver- 2000 Trans Am
I would get a carfax on it. Make sure it hasn't been in an accident, and that is a true WS6. I would pay about $5,000-$5,500 for it. If those were all highway miles I wouldnt be worried about them. I would go and drive it and take it to a mechanic.

Black- 2000 Trans Am
I wouldn't buy it unless you are capable of doing all repairs yourself and/or your gonna make a drag car out of it. I gave 6800 2 years ago for a 2000 ta,blk/blk leather, auto, 105k and was mint inside and out.

If your willing to drop in a new ls1 motor (or maybe an LS6
) than definitely buy it. But 180k is ALOT of motor wear, your gonna have to replace it sooner than later. Also make sure the frame and everything else is still rock solid, take it to a local mechanic to get it inspected.
