stock gear length
Does anyone know what the stock gear length is for my car? I'm going to the track tonight and last time I went, my car was shifting into 4th just before the finish. If I left it in 3rd until I cross the 1/4 mile. Would that take a little time off? I hit a 15.3 @ 94.3 mph. Thanks for the help.

I would shift it manually, just make sure you don't bounce it off the rev limiter!!

shifting it yourself will slow you down. it will feel like the trans is sliping everytime you shift. just put the shifter in the "3" position and leave it there

Why do you say that? I have always been able to manually shift my AT cars at the drag strip and they have always been faster that way. Now if the trans is already programmed to shift at the optimum engine RPM then manually shifting won't help.
My 1998 AT Trans Am would upshift about 5600. If I manually shifted it just at/before the 6200 RPM cutoff, it'd be faster at the 1/4 mile by 2-3 tenths every time, and I'd gain 1-2 MPH consistently.
But OP, you don't want to over-rev the engine!!! Find out what RPM is safe for yours and don't go past that.
