Yep, Challenger is one of the 'JFKs' of our generation. Most of us remember exactly where we were when we heard about it. I was at home due to snow and my mom called me and said turn on the tv, we're hearing something about the space shuttle here...
And wow it's already been 8 years since Columbia? That seems more 'recent' for the timeframes involved, if you know what I mean.

And the final shuttle (Discovery) mission is set to launch late next month. The other two remaining shuttles have already been put away. This will be Discovery's 39th mission (the most of the shuttles).

And thanx to the Obamanation now sitting in office we will now have no (zero, zip, nada) manned lift capability as he cancelled the Constellation project.
I guess it was more important to have NASA reach out to the Muslim population rather than getting us off of the sitting duck of a planet we live on. Mind you we're waaayy overdue for another dinosaur killer...

i just happened to stay home sick from school that day and watched it. i remember when it popped thinking "um, that looks strange!" .....i was a whole 11 years old at the time.
i think it is a OUTRAGE that we are no longer funding manned space flights and so would all the people that died to get the space program where it is today.

Yeah I'm gonna call bullshit on that one. If he raised NASA's budget I know I'd be seeing comments about him wasting money on the stars rather than fixing problems on earth. This is just a case of 'the liberal can do no right'. Now I know you'll deny it, but I also know I am right. Damned if he does, damned if he doesn't is the norm around here.

Why call BS on the truth? The Bush admin set in motion a program to return to the Moon using a concept known as the Constellation, more or less a larger more advanced shuttle. The Obama admin cancelled it.
If a Repub cancelled it I'd rail just as much as I believe in Space Exploration being the destiny of man.
Think about: All the resources we need are in the asteroid belt...
