Oil change! what oil do I need?
hey guys I'm getting my oil done today and I was wondering if I should use a thicker oil bc I'm hearing some noise in the engine, so what's the rating I need to get? I'm currently running 10w-30fully syn. but used to run 15w-30fully syn. was this bad? was it a lil thicker and since i was running i should keep it? the guy at pepboys told me to run it, that it was for performance cars. so I listened cuz I don't know any better and figured he knew what he was tlkn about.
sry wrong thread I just noticed, but still can someone help me.

mobil 5w-30 turns into water.. Avoid it. Any 5w-30 should be fine. My 5.3 is silent as ls motors go with rotella 10w-30 synthetic (it's cheap)

I never heard of our have seen a 15-30 oil from any manufacturer. Use a 10-30 or 5-30. They "myth" of using a higher viscosity oil to quieten a motor is just that. A myth.

Maybe 15w-40 delvac
Thicker low temp rating would probably make noise worse

In the cold climate weather you live in I would use 5W30 in the winter, and 10W30 in the summer.

I'm switching to Penzoil Platinum and Fram Extended Guard filter on my next oil change. I read good things about Penzoil and Fram Extended Guard from Sarge. So I'm going for it and I will save money on the process. I currently run 10-30w on my 98 with 108K. I wish Penzoil made a high mileage synthetic oil. But I change my oil and filter every 5k anyway.

Phantom Black Metallic- 2004 GTO M6
I just put Mobil1 5w-30 in mine a few days ago. I tend to switch between Mobil1 and Castrol Syntec.
