Need help with diff. ?
Hi guys
I have a problem i sold my SS in august it was a 2000 that I had ordered new in march of 2000. I thought the car came with a limited slip diff. but was not sure. I ordered all the performance stuff except for the rear axle upgrade from slp because I thought that gm put one in at the factory. So any way the guy I sold it to is being a pain in my ass saying that it doesn't have ls and that I should give him the 500 its going to cost him to have one installed (which seems a little cheap for parts and labor). So my question is did GM put ls's in and if so what option codes would it have? I still have a picture some where i am trying to find of the cars option codes that another person had requested when I was selling it. Thanks and any help is greatly appreciated.

On the driver door tell him to look at the codes and look for G80. Means it has a limited slip. All 98-02 v-8's have LSD's whether they be auburn or the torsen unit. No shop would do a diff swap for $500, that's what he would have to pay for the diff alone. I'd like to hear what he is basing this off of.

Thankyou c5z28 I am looking for the pic I have of that tag because I don't think he would be honest about if it does have the g80 code. I am almost positive that it has the lsd I just can't remember for a fact it has been a long time and i never did anything to the rear end to physically see it for my self. And the 500 it is going to cost him I said to my wife right away that the price was way to low and that i felt he was just being a d-bag to try and get some money out of me. Again thanks i feel a little reasured of my memories now because I have been second guessing myself on this.

If you already sold the car there's not a lot he can do anyway. Time to tell him to FO!

i bet the guy did a burn out and it was a "one legger" and thinks it doesn't have LSD... ask him how he knows and when he says the above say "you broke it moron... not my problem"...

Yep ALL LS1 F-bodies have a posi. Your 2000 had a Torsen, which is a gear driven posi. If you jack up the rear and spin the wheels, it'll act like a open diff. That could be what he did.

If the vehicle is an "SS" SLP would have installed the Auburn unit, I was under the impression that only the "Z28" came with the Torsen.

I thought the SLP SS auburn was optional...meaning you could still have a SS with a Torsen.

Originaly Gm used the auburn and slp had the torsen as an option and then in 99 or 00 gm switched to the torsen and slp swtched to the auburn as an option. I ran the vin and my car had the torsen. from the switch I figured that neither was better than the other so that was the only slp option i didn,t when when I bought the car. Thanks for all the replies.
