    Volant Cold Air

I was looking at the Volant Cold Air (the one with the dual air filters) for my Base Model Trans Am. I was just wondering if anybody knew whether or not it would fit on mine seeing as how i don't have the WS6 Hood? And If there is a better Cold air intake out there, i've heard good things about volant as well as bad

The volant seals up perfectly to a formula/trans am hood seeing it was made for those hoods, not the ram air one.

It's kinda pointless to have the volant if you don't have the ws6 hood

IMO...it's ugly and the gains over a lid (especially my FTP 98mm Lid) aren't enough to make me change.

im not a big fan of volant either...a little too "ricey" for me. just get an airlid, dont get an aftermarket maf, and dont get a k&n filter!...because of the knowledge i have gained form this site i went back to the stock maf and im using amsoil or paper filters from now on...

I have the volant and slp lid, but I believe I like the volant alot better, cause it actually will seal to your hood and get all the cold air coming in your hood, I didnt have to buy a new maf, and everything come with it that I needed.

It seals great on a factory hood and even better if you add a wa6 style hood and remove the baffle so you can see the filter through the plastic screens. I ran the Volant because I stile a new one on an eBay auction and didn't like to lids. Guess I'm more use to seeing the conical filters since I had my 1st CAI back when 5.0 mustang were the fast cars and the LT1 fbody was just coming out. To me seeing the filters seems more normal especially with a RAM air hood.

Do you have any dyno sheets that show it lowers hp?

There was a thread on here that they did a dyno between the slp lid and the volant and with the slp they gained 7 rwhp and with the volant they gained 12 rwhp. I doubt the volant lowers rwhp.

I believe those were my results. It was back to back dyno pulls.

I couldn't see how you would loose HP. Any supermarket intake is always a little better than stock. How much depends on the car and setup.

Volant also works with the Mecham hood. Absolutely gets better Hp than ANY lid. I saw 12Hp gain over stock and 7 over lid on my dyno runs.

Does he still have the Volant? I'll take it if he still wants to give it away - I'll pay postage! Need a new housing as the one I have does not have the hole for the vent...
