Hood painted
so while back i posted a thread on how to sand my hood, i had found a painter locally that was chargin 200 to paint it and sand it, which was 400-600 cheaper than every other shop in the genral area of where i live i was goin to bring my hood in the 5th of october my first pay check after all my debt was paid off.....well i just found out the guy goin to do it commited suicide couple weeks ago so that totally messed everything up ya know and its sad he did that aswell but now i got to start my search again for a decent price painter or spend the extra that i dont wanna have to do.

hmmm...
thinking i had like $80 in base & clear
plus like $20 for a qt of polyester primer made for fiberglass
counting sandpaper of various grits
& various supplies
costed probably around $130 from napa to paint my ram air hood
DIY
understanding that if you have the proper equipment & know how
i myself....
i woulda just coughed up another 60 -70 just to let somebody do the work
i couldn't make a living painting hoods for that price
meaning thats a lotta work for 70 bucks
that was a real deal
but seein is believin
& the everybody knows - the body man aint cheap
sometimes ya get what ya pay for
i'd get some estimates , check out their work vs the price
& go from there

I have done a lot of hoods and that was way too cheap for a hood. I have a small shop with low overhead and I'll tell you what I charge and if it's cheaper that me be very careful.
Paint just top of hood $300
Paint top and underside only clearing top and base underside $400
Paint and clear top and underside $500
That is prep. standing, primer filler, the sand, then correct value shade sealer(dupont), 2 to 3 coats of base and 4 coats of clear and then wetsand and buff the top so it is flat and glass shine with no Orange peel.
So as these things when you go to shops and make sure they use Dupont or PPG so you get a good color match and long lasting quality.1998 Trans Am 85k miles.
