If you have the funds and can afford to upkeep and store it, I say go for it!
Thats not a large amount of money but boats have been known to be a drain on the wallet, hopefully you have some mechanical knowledge and skills just in case it needs the stern or some other engine work performed. The good is you went for a ride already so you know its running.
Aren't there some sayings like the "best boat is the one your friend owns" and "the best days of being a boat owner is the first day out on the water and the day you sell it".
Personally I would luv to have one but other than Lake Michigan (best for bigger boats), we don't have many decent lakes or Rivers in my area of IL if you ask me. And the limited time we would spend boating would be difficult to justify the cost.
Good luck if you go for it!

Does it have captain's choice exhaust? That would be a huge point with me...

Baja make a good boat so go for it. Insurance shouldn't be much we pay around $200 a year on our boat and it a 2005 21' ebbtide.

Can you use the fact that it's so late in the boating season to haggle the price, or is it already a killer deal?

300 bucks a year for insurance not bad......heck its the gas that will cost more than that I've already spent over 400 bucks and season not done with yet and that's no complaint.
