Auburn performance differential 3.25+
I just bought a WS6 T/A and I am hearing a whining in the rear. With those gears should the whining be normal? Just want to avoid being stranded on the road.

Could be the result of a few things. Improper backlash set-up, loose pinion due to improper set-up, wore out ring and pinion.
First suggestion would be to maybe make sure you have the correct gear oil in there. Not sure how you would know this unless you drained the gear oil and filled it with new. From what I found online about Auburn diffs, all Auburn Gear differentials require a high quality non-synthetic 80W90 GL-5 gear oil. Treat the oil with Auburn Gear, GM, or Ford additive. 3 ounces of additive per 1 quart of oil.
You don't need to worry until you hear a clicking or clunking noise usually
I'm sure others will chime in.
