The hose is part of the PCV (Positive Crankcase Ventilation) system. They are notorious for cracking and resulting in a poor ruinning car. Looks as if yours may be disconnected and capped -- not sure from the pic. There is a sticky under the General Help section on repairing this: http://www.ls1.com/forums/showthread.php?t=80151 The repair is made with hardware store parts and costs significantly less than the $130 GM replacement hose. I saw a post recently where a member fixed his with an old spark plug wire boot.
As to the air filter -- I would replace it. If you are not sure, the easy test is to hold it up to a light and see if the light is blocked, or if it passes through the filter media. The Amsoil EA air filter is a real nice replacement piece. I would stay away from the oiled cotton gauze filters, like K&N. Opinions vary on this though as some members swear by them. I personally believe you achieve better filtration with a paper media, particularly the nano fiber, versus oiled cotton that does allow some debris into the engine for the sake of high flow numbers.

Pewter- 2000 Pontiac Trans Am
3/8 fuel line from auto zone. 4 bucks, dont even need clamps, it slides right on and fits tight on the connectors. as to the filter i'd prolly change it. i change mine when i dont have to wash the car twice a day to keep the pollen off. i figure with soo much pollen in the air all i would do is gum up the new filter for the whole next year. i use fram air filters. i dont get a lot of debris on the maf screen, just a couple of bugs, but they probably crawl in.
the hose in red is the one i replaced with fuel line.Last edited by V8MUSCLE; 06-03-2010 at 05:25 AM.

The LS6 PVC conversion looks very nice. Where you get there?
Today i start the cold engine and it idles on 900 RPM, than i put the the transmission on D and i wanted drive away. But in this moment the engines idle Rpm drops down and shorty sway between 200-600 RPM, the engine is also shorty shakes. This going 2 Seconds and then comes the code P171, P174 and then is all over. Next stop the engine idles by 500 RPM with no shaking or something else. If the hose little bit to do with this cause? I cleaned the MAF and also checked all hoses of cracks...
Sorry for the bad english....

Those codes are for lean bank 1 & bank2 and the "swaying" idle seems to confirm you have a vacuum leak. Fix the hose in the photo and then check carefully for any other air leaks.
