4000 rpm stall?
Can someone please explain to me why alot of you guys are going with 4000 rpm stalls in your cars? Just about every cam designed for the street for our cars shows a max of between 3100-3400. 4000 stalls to me just sound like there is now way that the car can be streetable. Is it bcause our cars have no low end torque and you have to get that high of an rpm just to get into the power band? The two cams I am looking at from CompCams are the 54-426-11 and 54-416-11 and both say the highest recommended stall is 3100. I am also look at Texas Speed and Performance 228R. They recommend a 3200 stall. What gives here?

blacker than wesleysnipes- 98' trans am
ls1s actually make good low end torque.
the idea behind having a stall that high is that it flashes to near that rating ..so you are in the 3600-4k range quick..which is usually in the meat of the powerband.
if the cams you are looking for are saying to go with a smaller stall...then by all means go with it.

it all depends on your goals and cam choice i run a 3800 stall and it is great, took a while to get my tune spot on for it to rip. my cam now (torquer 2) is set up for a 3000-3200 stall but when i want a new cam or ect...i can go bigger knowing that the stall will come close to dropping me in the curve

I do agree that a 4000 is extremely loose for the street. I personally wouldn't do it. I've installed several 4000-4400 stalls over the years in street cars, and a lot of guys wanted them removed for something smaller not too long after.
The Yank SS3600 is about PERFECT imo. Especially with a 3:23 gear (or better), it drives extremely near to stock.
No matter what, whoever installs a stall needs to be installing a trans cooler at the same exact time if you want your transmission to stay alive. Stalls create more heat in the trans & fluid. Heat is no good for prolonging life of the trans.
