Stop running rich until tune?
Since my header install I'm running pretty rich, not a huge deal but I need to take it on a three hour trip this weekend and I really hate how funky it gets you smelling (tips would help a bit by getting it out from under the car I suppose). Is there any way to lean it out until I get to tune it next week?

Can I not put a resistor of some value in the intake air temp harness, you know, opposing the idea of making it think there is cooler air coming in I could make it think it was warmer air to lean it out? Or would that just make it and the O2s fight and not really lean it out

Did you try using the predator you bought? You can lean it out using that. I always feel kinda shakey when someone talks about rigging the engine...but it does sound like the IAT sensor deal could work. Only one way to find out

I would say just put up with it until you get it looked at with some time. Leaning out a motor can cause some bad things to happen. Granted just going on a trip you should not be getting after it...to much
but I would not lean that motor out. The computer also depending on how long the heads have been on may not have adjusted. One thing that rots since you have to reprogram stations and your clock but is to disconnect the battery for like 30 seconds and then reconnect and start driving so it will re learn the car.

I'm not "leaning it out" necessarily, it's running rich. Severe, predator has my predator, it wasn't working right, that's why I have to wait a week

I would not screw with my A/F without a wideband at all....and that resistor mod is dangerous as hell....to your motor....

So basically I'm stuck with it rich until the predator gets back and I can tweak my fuel trims the right way? That sucks, but I guess it's better to be safe than sorry, I was hoping there was a safe quick way to do it. Maybe I'll get some tips put on today to at least pipe it out from under the car

How are you determining it is running rich? I thought mine was as well when I changed headers and I never noticed the gas smell like I did after. Finally talked with one of the shops and they did the actual dynometer with A/F and said that it was fine and actually on top end was leaning out so I got that changed. I know it aint cool to smell that but glad you're gonna wait!!

black smoke. It is actually VERY common to run rich after headers since the O2s aren't running as hot as they should. And even without cats it shouldn't smell as strong as it does. Oh yeah, and a little black smoke. I know the pedator is somewhat limited in monitoring capabilities but I think it'll give me a fair idea of what's going on once I get it back. I did contemplate selling it while it's still unlocked and just getting a dyno tune, but I would rather settle for less control as long as the control there is is in my hands not just some dyno tune that I have no control over

sounds like a plan, but for one I wouldn't run from hillary, and two with my headers ORY and loudmouth it's gonna be hard to get away with driving it like I stole it for 10 minnutes lol. Maybe when I get back up to Pampa tomorrow I'll give it a shot in the small town with dumb cops. I just realized I always capitalize ORY, wonder why

I don't understand why the exhaust fumes are getting back into your car.If you have a Loudmouth it should be exitting out the back of the car-how is it getting back in? Just curious. I thought headers leaned out an engine(dunno) an if you're not heating up the O2 sensors enough then you are not going into closed loop if I'm reading you right there. Temperature of the O2s are THE determining factor of the PCM going in and out of closed loop.So you're driving around in open loop? Realize you need your predator back to answer this stuff. Just more curious than helpful here-lol.

I don't have tips, it cuts short prior to the bumper. this long trip seems to have helped it learn the new system I don't smell like gas right now

What part of Texas are you in? That looks like the same Hyabosa I TRIED to race about 6 months ago when I still lived in Dallas. I was in the colony on hwy121. Tried catching him up until I hit 135mph. Damn those bikes are fast!
He never stopped pulling on me and was about 30 bus links ahead of me when I let off. We started from about a 60mph roll.
