Black 2002 T/A M6- Green 1997 Ram 4x4
Rock Island Armory 1911
So I was at a gun show yesterday looking at a table of pistols a local gun shop set up. Was fondling a Springfield 1911 when the guy starts talking to me. I mention I've been wanting a 1911, but just can't justify dropping a grand or more on a pistol right now. He pulls out one of these and hands it to me. Only $500 and he'd put it up against any of his springfieds, kimbers, or colts.
Finish was about what you'd expect paying half price and the slide was tougher than the others to move, but it felt good in my hand. Another guy standing there says he has one and loves it.
After spending some quality time with google I can't seem to find any bad reviews on the gun. Worst I've found is that it needs a break in period and it's difficult to disassemble.
Anybody have/have experience with these? I may very well consider picking one of these up as sort of a 21st bday present to myself if they're good.

lots of guns need that "break in", surfaces just need time to mate to one another.
Assembly should be as such on all standard 1911's. Hard the first time, and easy once you figure it out.
From experience of a good friend-
His boy bought a RIA 1911 for $300 froma gun show. The timing was slightly off and there was a burr on the feed ramp. They contacted RIA and got a return authorization.
THe gun came back in a bout 6 weeks, and the only part that returned that was original was the frame. The RIA 'smith had completely replaced the slide and internals, and had accurized it. Slide to frame fit was amazing, the barrel bushing was nice and tight, and the gun shoots as good as his dads Springer Loaded.
He got into a 3 hour phone conversation with the "smith after they realized what all work had been put into their return.
Id definately buy one if I have the chance.Last edited by Willfully Armed; 02-14-2010 at 02:58 PM.

RI 3.5 Tact owner myself. I also have a .45 XD and S&W 1911 PD. The RI is just as accurate as the XD and PD. I have had no problems with my RI period. My only issue with it, is the weight RI 3.5" 2lbs 9 oz, 45 XD 4" 30 oz, S&W PD 4.5" 28 oz. I paid $400 for the RI, $399 for the XD and well the S&W was below $900. I prefer the PD myself. But would have no problem if the RI was my only gun. If your not wanting to spend $800 or more on a 1911 buy a RI.

Silver- 2000 Pontiac Trans Am WS6
The gunshows around here, Ive seen them for around $400. One thing I would do though is change the smooth grips. Otherwise looks like a solid gun. Always read good things about thier customer service http://forums.1911forum.com/showthread.php?t=135891

He would put it up against a Kimber? Mine is the smoothest 1911 I have ever shot. I would have laughed in his face and walked away after that line.

I would put mine up against a Kimber or Springfield either one. They might have a small leg up on accuracy but not much. But for a defensive pistol why do you need a ragged hole at 25 yards?
I love my Springfields and I liked my Kimber enough to keep it for about six months, but I carry a RIA because it works and if it has to be put in an evidence locker somewhere I have not lost an $800+ pistol

Kimber has been in heavy discussion on 1911 forums for there quality going down hill. Lots of MIM and bad customer service.
I currently own and carry a Taurus SS PT1911. Fit is piss but functions flawlessly. Still I am looking to move to a new Colt Series 70 or 80 with the non-billboard rollmarks.

+1 on kimbers. you should be able to find a basic one (rubber grips, non-night sights) in the $600 range at shows. but RIAs are good for the price
