abs inop/tcs off lights on.
Was driving home this evening and all of a sudden the tcs off light and abs inop light came on. WTF?? Anyone have this happen to them? I do not have a scanner so I don't know any codes. Car is 02 ws6 t/a automatic,202k miles. Thanks

mine does it on the track sometimes or when I put the rear on stands and put it in drive to listen to noises in the rear.
abs is a separate computer system I think. Is it still on?

ABS and TCS both use the same computer. You'll have to get the computer scanned for trouble codes in order to know what wrong with the system. Its usually a wheel speed sensor, but it can be numberous other things.

I have noticed recently a noise coming from the left rear wheel area at highway speeds, kinda like a"ting, ting, ting" like it is a light thin metal, and the noise will stop as soon as I touch the brakes.

That sounds like it could be the brake backing plate rubbing on the rotor. If so then just bend it back away from the rotor. Most likely unrelated to the ABS/TCS lights.

First thing I would check is that all of your wheel speed sensors are secure. Also, sometimes they can get gunked up with dirt/grime, which cause them to not work properly.
My guess is that your TCS is only on because your ABS light is on. TCS will not operate without the ABS module functioning. If you cure your ABS problem, your TCS light will also go away most likely.
Have you recently put different tires on the car? Different size tires from front to back can also through a wheel speed sensor off.
I had this happen on mine after a rear-end install and it ended up being one of the wires got pinched.
Lastly, in order to scan the ABS, you'll need a high-end scanner like a Snap-on or similar such as the ones mechanics use or a dealership. The one's at Pepboys and Autozone do not scan ABS, only OBDII. Keep us updated.
