Light Pewter Metallic- 2001 Camaro SS
disabling auto head lights
I always like to take my car out in the evening for a cruise and I think Camaros look awesome when the fogs are on without the headlights. My auto headlights always kick on when there is still plenty of natural light. Can I simply disable my auto head lights by just removing the sensor? or is there a better way to do it?

Just replace the sensor with a 10k ohm resistor.
That is what I measured when the sensor was in the sun.

I did mine without a resistor. I just connected the two wires at the sensor together with one of those blue quick connectors. No more auto headlights.

i ask the same question and i found if you lift the e-brake up till it clicks into the first notch with the car off when you turn the car on the auto head lights will be turned off then when you put the e-brake down they will turn on.

Just pop the top of the dash panel up a few inches. Put on a clamp on connector to short the circuit. Works great and is easy to install. No more autoheadlights, yet DRL and everything else works.

you can disable the DRL if you want too. That is the first thing I did to both of my Camaros. I hate the fact you can't turn the lights off at night. It makes you look like a jerk sitting in front of a store with your lights on blasting everyone, lol...
I did the resistor in the dash thing too, but I liked the disable DRL better. Now I'm in full control of when my lights are on and off,.
I liked this link in case you are interested, http://xse.com/leres/ss/drl.html

And if your into this kind of thing, there is a GM part that does this also. The US Firebirds have a factory plug in resistor so that the headlight don't pop up everytime the key is on.

I think Ed nailed it imho, head over to the Rad Shack and get a 10k resistor as suggested you'll be in there anyway mau as well do the resistor mod..

You can also run 2 wires to the sensor and then to a switch and turn the feature on or off as you like.
