    Another Cam Question

I am looking at getting ...
GM Performance 12480033 - GM Performance Gen 3 Hot Cam Kits
Cam and Valvetrain, Hydraulic Roller, Duration at .050 in. 219/228, Lift .525/.525, Chevy, 5.7L, LS1
    Part Number: NAL-12480033
    Transaction$489.95
    and...
Harland Sharp SLS17 - Harland Sharp Shaft Mount Roller Rockers
Rocker Arms, Pedestal Mount, 1.7 Ratio, Aluminum, Roller Rockers, Chevy, 4.8/5.3/5.7/6.0L, Set
    Part Number: CSP-SLS17
    Transaction$379.95
should I stick with 1.7 ratio or get the 1.8s? what length push rods do I need? Is this a good street setup? I'm also wondering about exhaust, shorties are in my budget but which ones? and everything is completely stock except for the straight pipes,no muffler or cats and slp lid. thanks for your help.

    Sadly now demodded :(

If your tranny is an A4 I'd go with a 3400 stall and tranny rework (sunshell, better disks, drill mod, TM delete and shift kit and cooler) before a cam.

Stall alone netted me almost .5 seconds off in the quarter.

Also do an LS6 intake before the cam.

Gotta have the supporting mods 1st.

Do you have SFC's? That should be 1st before all else. You wanna be able to close the doors down the road don't you? And this will keep the T-tops from leaking as body flex on these cars is pretty wicked.

I still have a stock cam and I go mid 12's. One of my friends is knocking on 11's with a stock cam.

thanks guys, the only reason i was going for the cam so soon was that I have to replace my lifters(making noise) so i just figured I'd go ahead and change the cam. I'm actually a tech at a Gm dealership so I'll be doing all the work but I don't know squat about building performance cars so ill be asking for plenty of advice. The initial investment for my mods is going to be $800-$1000... What should be done first?

If youre spending the money on a new cam, then why dont you go with something a little bit more aggressive? I guarantee you will be happier with something more on the lines of a Tr224 or Tsp 224 than that hot cam. If you wanted a little bit more than that a Tsp 228 would be pretty well suited to what you want. Just my .02

long tube headers,a good ORY and a 3' pipe and a magnumflow muffler.tail pipes slow you down.

Do not do 1.8 rockers and a hotcam.
Considering you have $1000 to spend, get a stall (3000-3500), shift kit and trans cooler.
    Youll also rear need tires.
