    CMP Garand

Ok so I've talked myself into buying a Garand.

I see that I can get one through CMP, but its some sort of club i have to join.

I like their "special" model. its $995, and comes with new barrel, new stock, and a re-finished reciever.

anyone have any ideas or opinions

THey recently advertised a "field grade" for $465. Its in better shape than most of the gunshow beaters that run 900.

the minimal membership to CMP is worth it... plus you can get ammo through them to so you don't have to try to hunt surplus ammo.

if you didn't know it's not advised to shoot todays production ammo through a Garand because of the chamber pressures

    didnt know that.

i also saw were they wanted proof of being in a gun club, and have weapons training and stuff.

I'd love to do one of those 3-day workshops, but theyre so damn expensive

yeah but the field grades have mismatched stocks, moderate throat erosion, and the rifling is worn, they tend to hold 4-6 inch groups at 100 yards, whereas the special model will punch the same hole and has a brand new stock.
