Could it be a removable piece? Maybe the owner had a prior bad experience and is simply being extra cautious. Whatever it is, I have never seen anything like it before.

After all the deer I hit in the last year alone, I could definetly use one of those. My daily beater looks like its been in a war. I had my limit 24 hours before the seaosn opened here.
