i have the worse luck i swear!!
well i finally found out why my trans am blows smoke every time i start it...the piston rings are shot on it and if those are gone of course my pistons are to....so beside the fact that I'm screwed, does anyone know if i can find a rebuild kit or something if not than i might have to say bye bye to my trans am

haha of course there are rebuild kits. I would be more worried about the cylinder walls being scored. Texas speed has parts you can go stroker if you so choose.

I would do a leakdown test to figure out exactly where the problem lies. Even a compression test will tell you if it is rings. Smoke at start up is usually valvetrain related like seals.
Any oil consumption issues?? Even if you do consume oil that does not really mean rings as these cars often suck a lot through the pcv system.
I'll search some leakdown info for you.....

oh i know their shot bc we already checked the valve seals and i lost like almost half my horsepower which means my pistons are worn or the rings are just really bad and we did do a cylinder leak down its leaking pass the ring really bad

i wish it was something simple but when you start up a car and it blows smoke like there is no tomorrow and it wouldn't stop till like about 50mph and higher and at a 70 punch i used to take off pretty good now its like going no where and had to put oil in it like every other day

Look for a used stock long block. Have seen them go as low as $700 with decent miles recently....

Word to that man. When i had a lifter take out my original motor, I found a guy on craigslist that was putting a 408 in his 03 vette vert and was selling his ls1. It only had 11k miles, after i checked it over real good i bought it threw my heads and cam on it and called it good. My z has been running strong ever since. Best part was i only paid $800 for the motor that came with stock heads.

wow i finally got tired of that worthless so called mechanic that did a cylinder leak down test after it took him almost two and half weeks to just do the test and my car sat there for a month outside i got tired of that shit picked up my car yesterday took it to my buddy's shop and we re-did the cylinder leak down test to see if that guy was telling the truth and sure enough that fucker was lying my car is not leaking at all he tried to tell me it was leaking at #2 at 12% and 15% on #6 and checked them both and 0% leak down on both of them, now here is the big question does anyone know about any tools you could use to lift the springs that are in the back to check the valve seal and replace if it needs it? but over all looks like a valve job only thank god
