Mystic Teal- 2000 Z28
Rear end installation kit
Let me preface this with saying I'm a dummy. Here goes... I have a 2000 Z28 A4 with 2:73 gears. Recently I got a deal on a ring and pinion brand new in the box, they are Richmond 3:73's part # 49-0007-1 I've looked them up on summit racing and on Richmond's website and they appear to be the correct part number for my application. However, the installation kit for this particular gear set says it fits only 82-98. I'm concerned that I won't be able to use these gears. Any help with the correct part number installation kit would be greatly appreciated. My other concern was shift points and what effect changing the gears will have on them. From what I understand the ECU controls the 4L60E relying on vehical speed and engine rpm to determine when to shift, with the steeper gears I would assume the speedometer would read faster than the actual speed and I'm worried it will shift prematurely. Thank's in advance for any help. ~Mark

you will need to get the pcm programed for the gears, and I don't know off the top of my head why the install kit would not work but I think it might have to do with the carrier unit. they changed from an Auburn unit to a different unit, can't remember the name right now but it was a worm gear unit. Don't remember the year they changed but it was a change that happend in the 98 to 02 cars.

Possibly because one could be for an Auburn and not a Torsen which you may have??
