Midnight Blue- 1998 Camaro Z28 A4
In a dilemma...
Hello all, it's been a while since I've been on the forums.
In quite a dilemma atm and just feeling out some ideas on how I should proceed.
I live in Cali and own a 1998 Z28.
Car was completely stock until 2007. Had a good job then and decided it was
time to start fixing her up.
I began with cosmetic items such as wing/hood/wheels.
Shortly after, at mileage 93,151 the engine decided it was time.
(Engine was perfectly maintained and never beaten on, so screw you GM!)
After putting a lot of money into the car cosmetically and still needing a car,
I decided to keep her alive.
I purchased a brand new crate LS1 engine from the chevy dealer.
I also purchased tons of bolt on's, including longtube headers.
AIR/EGR/Cats were also removed and the vehicle was completely retuned.
(Yes I had 2 smoggers in my pocket)
Herein begins the problems, fast-forward to 2009:
- Like many others, I have lost my job and have become unemployed.
- Both of my smoggers got busted and shops closed down.
- Unemployed, I cannot afford to put it all back to stock. (Still have all parts)
- In a few months I'll require a smog and as is, will have to PNO the car.
I'm kinda thinking these are my only options:
- Sell the car (If I can, dunno how I'm gonna get around a smog)
- Register it out of state (Dunno anyone who would help me with this)
I don't mind selling it as I don't want to deal with the smog bs anymore.
I'm just afraid of the loss I will take on my prized possession.
Can anyone else think of other options for my dilemma?
I appreciate anyones suggestions/opinions/help.
Thanks for reading my shitty long post.

hell of a dilemma,
If you don't want to put it back to smog legal then you will probably have to sell it. I personnally would probably file it non-op for the time until your situation improves. If that's not an option then you can put it on ebay with a reserve.
The car looks pretty sweet. I don't know if I could sell it....

In Cali they have a checklist of things to inspect. This also includes a visual inspection of the cats to determine presence and location.
Any deviation from any stock (i.e., "factory") location or device without an accompanying exemption cert (some parts are "legal" for use in Cali and have been approved by the state) will result in failure to comply, regardless of tail pipe emission levels.Last edited by 67CamaroRSSS; 06-13-2009 at 12:29 PM.

You would think that some of us non-smog staters would have an exhaust system stuffed up in the rafters of our garage after swapping over to LT's and ORY. You might want to post on the "Parts Wanted" to see what you can scare up on the cheap in light of your situation. I hate to see you lose something you put so much work into.

Take the car to a Performance shop. They know people. I'm in the same delima here in NC. I have to pass a visual inspection depending on the shop.

Move to Florida, get a job here, no smog or emissions, and you can buy a house for half the price. The house next door to me is a 5 -3, 2700 under air with a pool going for $190,00. And we can go driving together!
