I am guessing you have stock manifolds and exhaust pipes?
Not sure about removing it with stock exhaust but you might try pushing it out through the top. LT1 engines were such a bad service design. The trans lines should be cliped at the bottom side of the block and near the middle. they just pop out of that clip if that gives you any room.

always dirty- 2013 Ram 2014 Caddy ATS
I have a M6 but I was able to maneuver the starter by the pipes to get it out. If you dropped the y-pipe I am sure it is 100x easier. Not sure if you could move the tranny lines enough to get it out. Luckily it is half the size of a gen 1 starter and several pounds lighter.
