can't select reverse properly...
Hi,
1st of all, I'm a new Firebird T/A owner, in faraway Dubai (what!), I just bought a '99 6 speed with quite a few mods, including (I think) a B&M Ripper shifter.
The damn thing quite often 'pops' out of reverse as you engage the clutch, and it is not so easy to select it either. All other gears are fine...clutch seems fine, no drag, can get 1st ok...
-Can this be some adjustment or similar?
Thanks,
Dermot.
PS: More dumb questions later I expect...

I had a problem with popping out of reverse on my 2000 camaro w/ 6 speed. Turned out to be the shift fork pads on the reverse fork. The are plastic and if you accidently force it in to reverse when you are trying for 5th gear they may be damaged and cause reverse to pop out. There may be some other reasons but that is what happend to me. It is a relatively easy fix but the trans must come out to do so. The pads were only about $1.00 each. 2 are required.

Synchronizer may be shot or worn. Just guessin' though.

Suggestion: If you are particularly irritated by another member's posting habits and are constantly fighting the urge to flame them, you can click on that person's profile, and select "Add to ignore list." This will make that person's posts invisible to you.

If it is the synchro you should be able to just flip it over and use the other side. Reverse only uses one side.

Can either be forks, syncs, or maybe something with the reverse lockout.

Thank you guys, I had reluctantly come to the same conclusion about those plastic pads, I think it is those....

Oh well, gearbox out someday soon...
