    GM stereo unlock

Had an 03 Sierra. Have an 05 2500 Silverado. Silverado's factory deck (cd player) wouldn't take CD's in anymore. Worthless. Put my old factory Sierra in and got the dreaded "Locked".

Searched the 'net" and discovered ONLY the dealer can unlock 03 and up GM factories. Went to the dealer this morning. I double check price (50 bucks) before they take it in. 1 hr. later service guy comes and tells me he is new and worked with "another line" of vehicles prior, says that I will be charged 95bucks instead.

I said "no, I don't think so, bring me my truck". Little did I know they already had it unlocked. Guy goes back to talk to someone and comes back and says "we'll only charge you 1/2 an hours worth of work.

Long story short, I have my tunes back in my truck. And 03 and up GM factories can only be uncoded by a dealer. I'm sure some else can but hell if I could find him.

The dealer checks the code on the back of the radio then looks at a cheat sheet and types in the code on the radio and unlocked she is.

We have the cheat sheet for most GM vehciles up to 01 at our shop. Aquired it from a local audio dealer.

That too. It's weird why they did so. Put a code on the back to look up another code in a book on some or stored it in the radio on other models. What ever the engineer felt like doing that week I guess.
