SLP CMExhaust question
I have a 02 SS with CME. If i remove the cats will the exhaust be a little louder with the stock manifolds???,,,If i install Pacesetter LTs and ORY will it get louder with the Stock SLP muffler? The car sounds good but it is pretty quiet now,,, just wanting it a little louder.
What muffler would be a little more stout sounding with the SLP Center Mount Exhaust system.
Thanks for the input.

Check out www.ls1sounds.com. You might like GMMG, which works pretty well with CME and sounds awesome

GMMG
GMMG does sound good and it will wake the dead and every cop in 3 miles will hear you when you get on it,,,,, plus at that price they should come with a lifetime supply of cheetos.

I experimented with this on my 02 SS with CME. Being a vert I was a little worried about obnoxious noise, but that factory SLP muffler does a pretty nice job of keeping things reasonable.
I first removed my cats with stock manifolds. I didn't notice much difference at all, and my wife who rides in it all the time didn't notice a thing either.
Later I installed headers and an off road Y-pipe. There was a very slight difference in tone, just a little deeper but nothing obnoxious at all. Very livable with the top down, no droaning. Nice to hear the engine while gradually going through the gears but once it clicks into overdrive it goes to sleep. Quite nice actually. WOT can grab a little attention if you want.
My wifes 4th gen also has this optional SLP exhaust but with the dual/dual tailpipes (still same muffler) and I've done the same header/y-pipe setup on this as well. If my wife can deal with it anyone can

My 02 SS has the CME with QTP long tubes w/ORY along with an electric cutout and Hooker Aero Chamber muffler.(no cats)
The sound turns heads and with the cutout open, women and children run for cover.

Something else I forgot to mention.
On the factory SLP crossflow muffler that came on both the CME and dual/dual cars,,,,I've been told there is a baffle where the I-pipe connects into the muffler to help quiet the sound a bit.
I've read and been told that when SLP first came out with this muffler it was a bit loud and and they needed to correct it so in the later year F-bodies a baffle was installed inside the pipe/muffler connection rather than design an entirely new muffler.
Whether this is true or not I don't know, I've never had my exhaust apart on my 02. My wifes 2000 that also has the same exhaust however has been apart, since I can see where the I-pipe has been welded to the muffler rather than the factory clamp from a previous owner.
Her car is quite a bit louder than mine, with the exact same system, which leads me to believe that if there is a baffle in there, it has been removed, because it's obvious her system has been taken apart in that area.
Something to check into anyway. Out of curiousity when I get the time I may slide the muffler off the 02 just for giggles and see.
I even read a post on here a while back where someone mentioned removing this baffle and picked up a few ponies on the dyno.
