Recieving Gifts
Dunno about you guys, but when I do shopping for my family, I really really try to find something that they would appreciate. I get so annoyed when people dont get how into cars I am...I've asked for tools and car oriented gifts for the last 3 years and it's like dust in the wind. sorry to complain, but just seeing what gift giving/recieving is like for you guys?

Silver- 1998 Camaro Z28 A4
we stopped the whole present circus a few years ago in my family. and i have to say it makes christmas far more enjoyable for me. no more running after "that certain thing i saw somewhere but can't find it anymore" or having my brain explode over trying to come up with something.
when i want something, i buy it. when i want to make my girlfriend a present, i do it regardless what time in the year it is.
edit: we don't have kids... that would be a whole different deal.

NOT THE WIFE! She knows i want car stuff and refuses to 'give in' b/c she hates the thing. I'm talkin my family! my brothers and parents....we celebrate xmas eve together every year and probably always will even after my parents die. I just don't get how they don't "get me" is all im complaining about.

You know, my ex husband bought me a pair of diamond earrings for Christmas in 86 (I'll never forget). Umm, keep in mind that I was in the process of rebuilding a 69 chevelle...
Well, I hate to sound unappreciative, but what the hell was he thinking? $800 on jewelery...
The earrings went back to the store and I got a Holly 600 and an Edelbrock high riseFor my birthday I got my cam and Hooker Comps...
It kept going that way all the way to the Paint and I was a happy wife from then on. Well, at least during the holidays or we'd still be married
So, I get it
Now that I have the Camaro... same rules apply

my g/f has been good to me in this regard. she hates the camaro but she has purchased me the slp airlid last christmas and went in with my parents to buy me a set of 17" ZR1 rims. gotta love it.
as she may check this forum i won't say what i got for her...but she WILL like it.
usually i try to get somebody a gift that is practical that they can use but also something that they want. like my parents. they've had the same ancient toaster as long as i can remember and my mom has bee complaining that her drinking glasses have been getting broken lately. so my g/f and i got her a new toaster and a nice set of table glasses. my dad is getting a robe since his old one is...old.

haha...kinda hard not too when i can't make a decent toasted peanut butter sandwhich cause it pops up after 2 seconds of the coils being on and personally throwing away two glasses in the last 3 or 4 months.
and of course dad with his eating in his chair in his robe and *splot* whoops...spagetti sauce.
haha...like i say...LOADS of subtlety in my house.

I found that if you want car parts, SOMEBODY in your family needs to be handed a catalog with stuff circled and the pages bookmarked. Amongst a group of family members seeing it, it greatly increases your chances at car parts. But I think that most NON car people dont bother to get car stuff for a variety of reasons, such as: If they know your car runs it obviously doesnt need anything right? They dont know what to get and dont wanna be redundant or get the wrong thing, or they hate your car and think the whole hobby is stupid and you'd be much better off with more "useful" gifts.
When I buy gifts for family members, most of them need just really functional gifts. My mom has neck, sinus, and back problems. So I bought a "go anywhere" tempurpedic pillow for her to compliment her never ending collection of tempurpedic products, a heatable/coolable herbal neck brace pillow thing and a HUGE tv remote with large buttons because she always loses the remote and cant see shit anymore. My dad wears out fleeces, sweatshirts, and loves high quality whole bean coffee. So he got a really nice reebok NY GIANTS pullover fleece with zipper, and a calvin klein jacket, and one bag of starbucks brand Italian Roast extra bold coffee and one bag of christmas blend coffee. My sister is obsessed with Greys Anatomy so she got season 4 and i'm gonna get her something from her favorite brand Lacoste.

Last Christmas I asked for just ONE gift.....a gift card to Jegs......I didn't get it. WTF????? I never ask for anything b/c if I need or want something, I work and save for it. I figured gift cards would be easy for anyone buying for me (parents, siblings, fiance, etc.) and I still didn't get one. This year I didn't even give suggestions after that.
I do know I got ACDC tickets in Nashville for Jan 31st though!
This year I bought my own gift...I'm on it now...my new Dell XPS laptop.

haha to truly get what you want each year, you have to basically treat yourself and hope that you get lucky as far as family gifts are concerned.
