Diff Major Rebuild Kit
Diff Technics and "others" seem to disagree on torque specs etc. for their rebuild kit. Anybody here ever install a rebuild kit and if so what specs did you utilize? I'm going to get a major rebuild kit for the axle seals etc. and am curious as there seems to be debate. It has been my experience most rear end issues are from incorrect installations......

I'll be interested to see what you come up with, though.
Mine is going up on the rack at the first of the year and getting a new clutch, plus a major "what all have I broken" inspection from crankshaft back.

I'd be interested in seeing what the weight differences on those pieces are versus stock.

Yikes...
On stuff like this, Sarge is absolutley right.
We get a lot of "This is the right way" and "This is the best way"
The fact of the matter is (and i think most of you will agree) OEM specs are just that, OEM specs. The OEM Specifacations are set in place as a bench mark for you, the Tech to devise the best MOA (mode of action). There are a few key points to keep in mind here and I'll share what I can, based on what I --KNOW FROM DOING IT MYSELF-- Frankly, and I know you'll agree, Sarge, DIY info is more valuable than all the reading in teh world.
So, based on my rebuild, here's what I know.
It's important to note that the parts you and I use will harbor variances in their design as well, so again, I am only offering this information as a stepping stone for your project. No one should use these exact specs, unless ofcourse you're using the exact same parts.
Utilized parts are as follows:
Hendrix Engineering
GTO 2 Piece 300M 1000HP STUB
-
Hendrix Engineering
GTO 2 Piece alum/chromoly 1000hp Drive Shaft
(note) This was freeze treated prior to install. optional step.
-
Mansfield Tech
GTO Power Rear Drive Axles (Up to 900HP)
-
Automotive Engineering UHP
GTO Diff Housing (Polished Steel)
GTO Rear Drive Comp Seals and kit.
-
The rest is self explanitory.
The specs were as follows:
note - The information hereafter is based on four (4) trail and error runs.
-
Diff lube capacity (drain and fill with *NEW* parts) @ 3 and a half pints
*
Pinion flange rotaional torque @ four (4) inch pounds
*
limited slip differential friction modifier --IMPORTANT-- 1.0 OZ (I recommend Ultra Gluide)
*
---
The kit I got didn't come with carrier bolts, so you'll need those if you go with the HE kit(S)
I hope this helps. Or if you need more numbers/math, let me know.
I have some pics from the rebuild on my camera if you'd like those too. I'm pretty sure anyway.

Looks like I don't have the rebuild pics on my camera anymore. I've been using it a lot lately.
Sorry buddy
Honestly, though - I seriously doubt, SERIOUSLY doubt you'll have any trouble with the install.
Like I said before, the specs I posted are based on a trial and error, track test.
The criteria used was 0-60 feet, 0-100 feet and RPM curve under a cornering load.
So as long as you're using the same kit (which it looks like you are!) you're golden.
I should stress, however (and i'm sure you know this) that the wear patterns and amounts are unique to every rear end, and minor alterations in the math will be necessary. Like the amount of lube, the type of seals, etc.
I have found that the micrometer is like your best friend once you graduate to more serious mods hahaha
...SPeaking of Mods, i'm going to post a thread about camshafts here in a minute.
Have any of you guys done any Cams, DIY? Look for the thread. I appreciate all input!
Good luck, Sarge! I look forward to some pics of the overhaul!!!
