any one have experience with an ignition on the dash?

it's on a 2000 monte.. i've searched everywhere.. and the dealer isn't much help.. the key doesn't turn. and i was told i need a new lock cylinder.. so i have one on order. but i can't get the old cylinder out.. i've got the dash torn apart and everything.

but there's a tab that you gotta push in to release the cylinder.. only problem is, you gotta turn the key, to beable to push this tab...

and i cant turn the key. (the whole reason for needing a new one).

and i also can't disconnect the shift cable from the switch, to free it from the car... any ideas??
