what is 383 stroker?
Dumb question. what makes a car a 383 stroker? what needs to be done to an ls1 to make it a 383 stroker and what kind of power does it give you? im sure those are dumb questions but i hear alot about 383 stroker and have no idea what it is.

You take the motor out.
Upgrade to a stroker crank (longer throw for the piston) and rods.
Bam...383.
That said, I would not recommend an LS1 383.2008 Trailblazer SS

Agreed, if you're going to stroke it, make it a 402 or 408 iron block (correct me if I'm wrong luos )

isnt it a 400 block with 350 crank? or vise versa?

383 is basically a 4" stroke crank with slightly oversized pistons. 3.905" pistons to be exact

A stroker motor is any motor that has a longer stroke than piston diameter. Lots of torque due the longer stroke allows more air/fuel to be exploded.....at a lower overall rpm.

So would it be worth it to put a forged stroker crank and connecting rods in my 98 ss m6. i already have bbk intake, 85mm throttle body, slp maf cold air intake k&n, slp loudmouth, pacesetter lt's ory, 228r cam and 5.3L heads running with a 75 shot dry. How much power would i be gaining by doing something like that?

there is 3 main ways to get more cubic inches out of an internal combustion engine. 1, increase bore size(over bore , punching out, boring,oversizing).2, increase piston travel(or stroke) in the bore(stroking). or the third which is do both. so remember there is no replacement for displacement. there is also chamber resizing ,but thats for a nother lesson

A 383 stroker has all forged parts(stronger) with a 4 inch stroke. They are good and powerful engines. You can use say a AFR 205 head and interchange it from a 346 inch motor. I think the 383-396 is limit though. You can go bigger to a 402-416 inch motor with AFR 225's etc etc. I am think about a 383, good torque monsters.

You dont haveto have forged internals (although you'd be bout crazy not to) but you got the general idea, but the heads aren't what makes the CI differnce, its bore and stoke, 383 is about the limit for a LS1 B/C of the cylinder wall thickness, to get up in the 400's you need a different block...
correct me if im wrong.... but im not thinkin im too far off...

Simplified:
400 block, 350 crank = 377
350 block, 400 crank = 383
I've ran both engines in a race car and they are both great combinations...
Or if you want to take it a step further:

...And suede is correct. And I agree, if your going thru the work to build one up, put forged internals into it. Atleast forged pistons and rods, the crank I wouldnt worry too much about unless your going to be running some compression...Last edited by DirtWad; 02-22-2009 at 01:20 AM.

there have been AFR 205's ran on 402 and 408 but they have to be sent back for some slight porting *usually by Tony Mamo himself* Now those tend to be the real torque monsters.
There are all types of strokers out there depends how big you want to go.
here is the general way the strokers go from original block and what the final displacement is
5.7 - 6.2
6.0 - 6.6
6.2 - 6.8 or 7.0
7.0 - umm 440 whatever that is...
correct me if I'm wrong Luos... I'm new to the stroker world...
