Truck coil to replace the OEM coil
Greetings all,
I hear that you could swap out the OEM coil with a Truck coil, because the Truck coil is slightly more powerful.
I have a two style truck coils (LS7?). But the primary side connector is a different connector than the OEM. Is there a truck coil that has the same connector has the OEM? Or do I need to cut and splice? Maybe I have the wrong truck coils.

I would not reccomend cutting and splicing. If the coils dont fit then they dont fit. On the same note you wont notice a different with the coils unless your running heavy mods so save the cash and mod elsewhere.

What is being used for an ignition upgrade on the LS1 engine? I know MSD is selling after market coil. But I also read that the truck coil was also another upgrade. But it has a different connector on it (LS7?).

Msd, does offer a coil pack kit for right under 600.00, Also if you decide too do the upgrade i would reccomend taking a look at the plugs and wires so u do get the max output.

In my opinion the factory coils are fine unless you're introducing boost, you could help by using the proper plugs and wires.
I highly recommend reading this website in its entirety, I've used their wires for decades with excellent results and no problems over time: http://www.magnecor.com
Good plugs to run in LS1 engines are AC-Delco 41-932 or Autolite XP5245

Well actually wonderfull GM has contracted out the coils multiple times.......There is a total of 5 different coils used on the LS motors...ALL HAVE DIFFERENT CONNECTORS!!!!! And there is 3 different mounting styles also. MSD ONLY MAKES 2 VERSIONS!!!
Stock coil has more power than you'll ever need unless your adding LOT'S of cyl. pressure; such as a 200 shot or 8psi or more of boost.Don't be afraid of the bottle!!! Be afraid of your tune!!!
