Automatic Rear View Mirror???
Did GM offer a rear view mirror on the F-Body that would dim automatically?
Has anyone tried adding one and will the power supply for the interior lights on the stock mirror plug right in to a GM mirror with the electric eye type auto-dimming mirror?
It's the only "luxury" item I would like that I don't have.Black 2002 SS

You can get an auto-dimming mirror with compass and outside temp for about $300. They're made by Gentex (OEM supplier for GM) and marketed by Mito Corp at http://www.mitocorp.com/html/nightvi...ingmirrors.htm. They also have models with only auto-dimming (no compass, etc.) but those don't have the map/courtesy lights.
They take a little more installation than just plugging into the existing wiring (you have to run the temp sensor outside) but it's not difficult.

Thanks, I may grab one of those!
- Finding them (same brand) on eBay and other sites for over $100 less than the site you posted, hope you didn't buy there!Last edited by BigFrog; 04-17-2006 at 09:04 AM.

I installed one from a late model Tahoe in my convertible about a month ago. I bought it on Ebay with the temp sensor included for 85 bucks.

How hard would it be to install one in a hardtop or t-top car? I like the idea of the temp and compass in there. I have one in my Caddy.

Where did you mount your temp sensor? I'm thinking that somewhere under the hood wouldn't work too well since it could read hotter than it really is. Thoughts?

Sorry for the late reply, I was out of town.
I have it mounted on the passenger side fiberglass radiator support behind the headlight. I did have a pic on imageshack but all it shows me now is a red X.

I wouldn't put it in the engine bay... the measurements would be skewed by how friggin hot it gets in there....

Did that bracket come with the temp sensor or did you have to buy it?
I just ordered the mirror for my trans am and they are changing the display to be in red to match my interior (which will look a lot better then the blue display).

I contacted Gentex and Mito Corp. (Gentex's supplier) and I was referred to Bob Prim @ R T & Associates (mirrors@qtm.net) and he will change the screen for you for a whopping $20 more than the mirror costs ($210 including shipping via UPS). I paid him through Paypal and he told me that I should have the modified mirror in less than a week. The great thing is that it will still have the factory warranty b/c they modified it and not by yourself. The only other mirror that had the capability (or so I was told) of having the red display from the factory is the one with homelink (GENK60), which would've been cool, but the cheapest I could find it was for $400!!! For a mirror, I'm good with the one I got.

my kind of guy haha ebay is the key ... either that or your local junkyard...where you could pick it up even cheaper.. just know what vehicles they come in .. ...
its a nice lil addition but as for the dimming part I dont need it my back window is dark enough especially at night because of the tint..
