Racetronix pump install in pics
I have had a racetronix pump and hotwire kit sitting around for a yr......just had spring break so there was no excuse.......my car just turned 160k so I knew my pump was on borrowed time....I had a 89 IROC that the pump went out at 100k and left me stranded....cant afford that on my DD......dont have as many pics as I would like......my battery in the camera died right when I started the pump assembly.......but the instructions from racetronix are the best I have ever seen for putting a aftermarket part in......you are on your own for getting the tank out.......or cutting a trap door.......but I dropped the tank.....the instructions for the hotwire kit install are kinda....sparse.....only a piece of paper telling you where the connections go....which is only 2 connections......fuel pump and the batt side of the alternator......how to get between the 2 is up in the air.......so I went a direct route for the hotwire kit

never noticed the tank had handles....next step is remove tank.....but the exhaust is in the way......I bought the car with a borla.....and they welded all the sections of pipe together....so the whole thing had to come out.......damm near had to take the rear end out to get the exhaust out.....took me 2 days .......after exhaust is out of the way......remove all the heat shields....be careful....those edges are sharpLast edited by sjsingle1; 03-21-2011 at 08:19 AM.

there are 2 fuel sock filters on the pump.....1 on the fuel bucket......and 1 on the pump itself.......the racetronix kit came with the pump filter......you are on your own for the bucket sock....quick trip to the dealer got me 1 ASAP......do not have a pic of it.......but the old bucket sock was COAL BLACK.....talk about nastyLast edited by sjsingle1; 03-21-2011 at 08:20 AM.

you can see the 2 arms of the sender and the 3 fingers on the arms......they contact to send signals to the fuel gauge.....there was so much slop in the plastic assembly that the fingers did not make contact all the time.....no wonder my fuel gauge was so wonky.....that dark thing in the middle is actually a brass fitting that couples the 2 pieces together.....I knocked it out and bent the fingers so that they made contact despite all the slop in the assembly......and I made sure when I reassembled it that the brass fitting was good and tight in there.......so far so good on a gas gauge readingLast edited by sjsingle1; 03-21-2011 at 08:23 AM.
