The only 2 athletes I have ever followed that could do that, Michael Jordan and Joe Montana, when the stakes rose, they elevated themselves and their team. Always always found the way to win. No one ever beat Jordan in the Finals, no one ever beat Montana in the Super Bowl. They both had situations in the big game where they had to come from behind in last minute situations and they both always did.
I agree with your agreement. If you were the opposing team and you knew that Montana had the ball with a few minutes left you probably felt like just walking off the field and giving up, you had to know you were toast.

And what about Trent Green? He helped take my Chiefs to a 12-0 record before being knocked out in the playoffs.

Thats not true, he had a knee injury his second or third year in the league and missed a ton of that season. For all the high flying acrobatics he did and was capable of, its amazing he wasn't always injured if you think about it.

Jordan's just a bitter, grumpy old man, and you can't even go up to Montana to shake his hand without him assuming you're asking for an autograph and telling you to fuck yourself.

Montana doesn't do shit without getting paid. That's why you see so few interviews with him, so few functions including him. Hell, when they introduced all the Super Bowl greats at one of the SB's a few years back, he wasn't there because he wouldn't be paid, and they had to skip over al those years where he was MVP. Just unbelievable.

I don't care too much what an athlete or other high profile figure does with their life. I personally don't idolize any of them or make them out to be some greater than life hero. They put their pants on one leg at a time just like everyone else and have to wipe their ass after they take a shit just like everyone else. Pro athletes are the most grossly overpaid individuals there are, but thats not their fault. Society has made them out to be "heroes" because of what they accomplish on the playing field. Since they are deemed hereos, they must be rewarded with these huge contracts. Its fucking ignorant that Alex Rodriguez is paid $30million dollars a year to play baseball. Its not his fault, people keep supporting sports the way they do and the money will continue to be there for the outrageous salaries. Because sports are so much more important than other careers and deserve so much more financial rewards

I wouldn't want people harrassing me all the time with b/s requests either, so I totally understand where an athlete would be coming from by coming across as a dick. It would be annoying as fuck to try and take your wife and kids to dinner or out shopping and people coming up wanting your autograph/picture. At the stadium, sure, out in public, leave me the fuck alone.

and absolutely none of that has jackshit to do with on field/court performances, which is how you measure the greatest ever. I did recently see an interview with Montana within the last year or 2 though, i think michael kay did it.

Joes claim is that he had one of his kids basketball games to go to prior to being asked to go to the super bowl btw. The 100,000 appearance fee was all speculation. Both the NFL and Montana both made plenty of money off each other for a long time, and its his family that missed him plenty of sundays. So let the guy have a life imo
