    I'm guessing you're in 0305? In 0310 I believe is when you start figuring Square Roots in Linear Inequalities. Get a graphing calculator.
    in most of my college level classes we werent allowed to use calculators because it was too easy to cheat

    You'd only be hurting yourself in the later classes. In calculus if you don't have a good solid algebra base you will fail. miserably.

    right, thats why we couldnt use calculators

    m is the slope and b is your y intercept. (when the line crosses the y axis, x will be equal to zero and cancel the m term).
    so you already have your b, the y intercept.
    y=mx+3/2
    now you need to solve for m. youre given 2 points, the x intercept (-2,0) and the y intercept (0,3/2).
    there are 2 ways to solve for the slope. first, is to calculate it using the two points. slope is defined as "rise over run", or the change in y divided by the change in x. so the formula would be m=(y1-y2)/(x1-x2).
    or, you can plug one of the points into the y=mx+3/2. you cant use the y intercept point, since x is 0 it will cancel out the m, so you have to plug in the x intercept.

    y=mx+3/2
    (-2,0) x=-2 y=0

    0=m(-2)+3/2

    solve for m
    m=3/4

    so y=(3/4)x+3/2

    haha, its a little early in the morning for me, so if any of that is unclear let me know.
    why do I keep coming up with -1/2 for my slope?
    m=y1-y2/x1-x2
    m=0-(3/2)/-2-0
    m=(-2/1)/(3/2)
    m=-1/2

    Is that right?

    okay, came up with something different again
    x=-2 y=0
    x=0 y=3/2

    m=(3/2)-0/-2-0
    m=(-1.5/2)x+3/2

    the equation for slope is:
    m=(y1-y2)/(x1-x2)
    the parenthesis are very important.
    m=(0-3/2)/(-2-0)
    m=(-3/2)/(-2)
    m=(3/2)/2
    m=3/4

    I figured out what I was doing wrong. Now we moved on the systems of equations. So far so good. Thanks again.
