Shifting Speeds

stupid question (im full of them)

whats the point in downshifting to the redline if ur just gonna shift right back up? unless theres a different purpose

You should see mine fly in 1st, 2nd, and 3rd.

I get really close to 6700 RPM's but the tach shows 5700.

Stock 3.42's with an M6...
6200 RPM's in 1st gear = 52MPH
6200 RPM's in 2nd gear = 78MPH
6200 RPM's in 3rd gear = 106MPH
6200 RPM's in 4th gear = 138MPH

You have to be able to judge when you can safely downshift though.

Either you guys are actually typing that fast or I'm really that sleepy. I guess Luos beat me to it. Take his word for it not mine.

Its hard to watch the tach, the road, and every where else for cops at the same time when doing this, anyone else notice?

i just asked incase i wanted to downshift and i was going lets say 47.. could i downshift into 1st to get that extra "pull" for a split second..

or if im driving down the highway .. and say im going 70 in 3rd and a ricer blows by me for some odd reason.. can i shift it down to 2nd to jump after him..

get where im goin with it?

yea i mean i get the point of downshifting for the extra pull... but in that case ur probably floorin it, so if u downshift RIGHT at the redline, u would immediately have to shift right back up right? or are you just wonderin what the redline is so you can downshift a little BEFORE the redline?

That extra shift would be a waste of time with the LS1's torque curve.

Depending on the RPM's....that extra pull would be wasted when you shift.

If you think you will be too close to the redline, don't downshift. The LS1 has a mean torque curve...don't need to get that extra 'pull' from a lower gear.

i couldnt tell u.. i just had that picture on my computer and i uploaded it.. i know it has alot to do with the image size.. like the max avatar is like 150x100.. maybe if u proportioned it just right.. it would be a bigger avatar?

notice he took the pic closer to the mirror, plus since u have the car in the mirror its hard to read the letters
