Thats a good find man. Seems that carb just dumps a ton of fuel in that cyl causing it to revert back into the reed cage perhaps like another poster suggested. It sucks you had to take apart that motor that many times though. You are a pro at tear down now lol
Dont worry about the reliability of Yamahas or that motor specifically, the problem you are having is exclusive to your bike and freak occurence. Yamaha's are some of the highest quality machines made, and imo right up there with honda and BETTER in performance.

With a two stroke, it is essential the crankshaft bearing seals are top notch. Any leaking through these will not allow the by-pass function to work correctly.

i only tore the motor apart once...had it apart in 20 mins, and back together in 5 lol...this is why i love 2 strokes. none of the cams or timing or valves to mess with...thats why i was so stumped on it. because theres only so much that can go wrong...i knew something was wrong where it kept cracking reeds, and actually called customer support for the company that makes the reeds and they said that too much fuel, or excessive crank case pressure can crack them. now that i know the carb is messed up, i can get another set of petal (oh joy) and get a diff set of carbs and finally get it out of the garage under its own power and see what a banshee is all about. im not worried bout yamaha and honda reliability..its the same thing you get between ford or chevy guys. all personal preference. theres a reason banshees are so popular or hold their value in almost gold. so yea i feel good about this purchase of it. now just iron out the tiny issues and have a sweet bike.
i also appreciate all the help/input i recieved on this also. nice to know people still help a brother out when hes stumped haha

I dread tearing down my '05 crf250 eventually. But for now the valves haven't moved and leakdown is perfect. factory freak I guess. I beat on it and weigh 215.. Very meticulous oil and air filter maintenance by me since new though
You have to take the subframe off to get to the carb. So I work around honda bog..

the banshee is kind of a pain to work on with 2 HUGE pipes getting in the way. so i tore off all the plastics, and the gas tank. which opens the room up alot on it. im actually excited to get to put it together again. i forgot what it looks like whole haha

i acknowledge the virtues of the modern 4 strokes, but I'm a 2 stroke guy through and through. Love the sound, power and smell. Always will.

Motul left the top end on my yz85 clean enough to eat off of. Wouldn't foul plugs putting around (even though it was way rich). Smelled good too

Ran amsoil for a while, just because. Worked fine too. Yamalube is some nasty mess. Ran some castor just for the smell once

haha whats cool is i have a full set of fmf's for it...fmf fatty pipes. and fmf silencers...then a nice fat set of toomy's, and ill run the fmf silencers....sounded sick in the garage on 1 cylinder cant wait to hear the 2...thats why i loved/miss my snowmobiles the big twins sounded like sex when piped or canned...so im anxious for this banshee. and i will definatly get a vid of its first fire up on both cylinders and running at 100%
