Yeah, I honestly have no idea what the deal is with this.

Question for you though man, since I mentioned it, what do you think the rich smell could be caused by? Really smells like it's burning too much fuel to me.

Though my car runs fine and doesn't stutter or anything and still runs down the strip like a champ its probably just running a little rich.
Yeah, my car was running perfect yesterday, even after the light had come on. It's super awkward.

But yeah, if I were you, I would just wait until you get your H/C and just turn off the CEL. That's not a bad idea at all, would be kind of unnecessary to replace it.

Also, is the stupid "SERVICE ENGINE SOON" light and the "Check Engine Light" two seperate things? Or does your car just have a different readout or something, what am I missing here? I'm confused

I'll guess the latter based upon her post in the Spazapalooza thread.

Now ya got me wondering if the cats are empty on your car.

Mine has the "engine" light and "service vehicle soon" message on the cluster. When mine tripped the "service vehicle soon" light, it was for a bad oil pressure switch. I think the CEL is for emissions and the "service engine soon" is for sensors in the engine.

Also, goat, I'm actually surfing through my manual right now. Basically it says if the "SERVICE ENGINE SOON" light stays on constantly, it's due to emissions, if it's flashing, it means there is a "misfire condition" that has been detected, and it "may damage the emission control system on your vehicle".

Doesn't say anything about a CEL, so I guess mines doesn't have one. I'm looking at a readout diagram for the instrument cluster as well, doesn't have a "CEL" icon on there either, weird.

If I had a Diablo tuner, I would tune my downstream O2s out completely.

You wouldn't get any trouble when your car needs to go into emissions with the O2's tuned out?

Depends on your states law. I know some not only do a smog test but also scan your PCM.

I know they check for upstream O2s but I don't know about downstream.

We are now required to plug the new generation Smog machine into your 1996 and newer computer system. The Smog machine checks your computer to make sure all the internal function tests are recorded and they all show “pass”.

OK. Looks like I will have to check for exhaust leaks then.

Bests way to find out IMO is look up your local regulations. We do not have vehicle inspections in Oklahoma. So it does not matter here...

Correct and if your tuner tunes out the rear 02 sensors, when you plug into the OBDII, the PCM will show that the 02's are reading the correct voltage even though they are not there

I passed my emissions with flying colors and I have no cats on my car.

Thye just plug in to OBDII cars here. They don't even open the hood. My car (the 02) has headers (no cats) with TD's dumped at the axle and it's passed 2X now because all missing stuff has been tuned out.
    67 Camaro: K-K + 797-z (look it up), 454/Th400/4.10 12-bolt = 6mpg, PS/PDB/PW tilt, tach, gauges...

    2002 Z28: NBM/Tan, MTI smooth lid, smooth bellows, !AIR, !cats, 1-3/4" QTP SS LT's, 2-1/2" TD's with X-pipe, MagnaFlows dumped at axle, custom welded SFC's, MidWest Chassis body mount adjustable T/A, 3400 stall, 3.23 gears (was 2.73). Tuned: 343rwhp/357rwt (before TD's). Best: 12.559 @ 108+, 1.73 60' @ 3500' DA w/MT ET Street DR's.
