Yeah, I honestly have no idea what the deal is with this.
Question for you though man, since I mentioned it, what do you think the rich smell could be caused by? Really smells like it's burning too much fuel to me.
Yeah, my car was running perfect yesterday, even after the light had come on. It's super awkward.
But yeah, if I were you, I would just wait until you get your H/C and just turn off the CEL. That's not a bad idea at all, would be kind of unnecessary to replace it.
Also, is the stupid "SERVICE ENGINE SOON" light and the "Check Engine Light" two seperate things? Or does your car just have a different readout or something, what am I missing here? I'm confused

Phantom Black Metallic- 2004 GTO M6
Now ya got me wondering if the cats are empty on your car.
Mine has the "engine" light and "service vehicle soon" message on the cluster. When mine tripped the "service vehicle soon" light, it was for a bad oil pressure switch. I think the CEL is for emissions and the "service engine soon" is for sensors in the engine.Last edited by cammed goat; 05-05-2011 at 05:35 PM.

Also, goat, I'm actually surfing through my manual right now. Basically it says if the "SERVICE ENGINE SOON" light stays on constantly, it's due to emissions, if it's flashing, it means there is a "misfire condition" that has been detected, and it "may damage the emission control system on your vehicle".
Doesn't say anything about a CEL, so I guess mines doesn't have one. I'm looking at a readout diagram for the instrument cluster as well, doesn't have a "CEL" icon on there either, weird.
