Well, since everyone nobody really answered your question.....
-Mufflex makes cat-delete pipes that still utilize your factory y-pipe but you ditch the cats, which will be worth some power and sound better.
-Stainlessworks, Random Technologies makes off-road y-pipes for your car. I believe Mac has some as well.
I had a StainlessWorks offroad y on the factory manifolds on my '97 LT1....it fit perfect, good quality......once I ditched the cats it made my car sound a hell of a lot better. There's a video somewhere of a guy who put the Mufflex cat-deletes on his Z but had the stock exhaust otherwise, and it sounded meaner as well.
Your manifolds are not that horrible....'01-'02 had revised exhaust manifolds that probably flow as well as any shorty headers out there. Heck I'm willing to bet they are maybe less than 5 h.p. difference between stock and mid-length headers....LTs are the way to go if you want hp, but you stated you just want it a little louder. I for one have always gone against the grain and am getting the Mufflex cat-deletes for my '02 T/A and fabbing true duals from there with one of the multiple and cheap universal x-pipe duals available thru Summit and Jegs.

When I had my 99 WS.6 I did a Mac ORY with stock manifolds. It sounded HORRIBLE (had LM1) and made no gains. I picked up absolutely no mph in the 1/4. Waste of time and money.

I have an slp emission legal Y and factory WS6 catback with stock manifolds. Sounds good to me, a bit resonant around 2.5k, but good all around.
The Y is probably for sale. PM if interested.

I was running the SLP ORY with LM 2, it sounds good with manifolds and cats.
This is a quote came from SLP,
This Y-pipe assembly is designed to replace the "flat" factory pipe (behind the stock catalytic converters) and bolt to your stock exhaust manifolds. The free flow bends will increase the efficiency of your exhaust system and make up to 10 additional horsepower depending on the application. This assembly comes complete with installation hardware and instructions.2001 Pontiac Trans Am WS6, M6, Moser 12 bolt 4.10 gear,
SLP Lid, SLP Smooth Bellow, Ported & Polished MAF, Fast TB, Fast Intake,Comp Cams XER281HR-12,
Jet Hot LT Headers, Jet Hot Y pipe, SLP Loud Mouth.
