Silver- 2002 Trans AM
Thats the way I see it. I put my own money away for savings. I have THREE different retirement funds (two separate 403b funds and my own mutual funds). I like getting my own money back from the Gov, because all at onces and if I have any CC debs that I need to pay off or any mods I want to do on the car is DONE.
The reason why I over pay the taxes is because living in NY is expensive. Specially if you own a house.

well, I cant save for shit, so if they keep some of my money and give it back to me thats good for me, cuz I wont let it just sit in my savings account. If I have money to spend, I get things for my car, probly shouldnt... but I cant help it.

I got back just over $4K-- (not counting the Government Band-aid on economic troubles known as the IRS rebate checks that is coming)--
It is not really good to let the government have a free loan, but at the same time, unless you "would have saved" the money, then really it isn't that bad.
Jan 2009- I plan to change it- so I get more money each month in my check- and my ultimate goal is to break even when I do my taxes in Feb 2010.

only getting 4500 back....once you make over 150k (combined income) a yr they really aren't very lenient to you...although in the northeast 150k a yr is lower middle class......bordering on poverty
then there that nice $1200 IRS rebate as a payout for our president's royal screwing of this country and all the jobs (should buy my suspension mods though)

Do you need to pay taxes to get a tax return?
If so, I get nothing.

i live in CA i know all about cost of living...
Also grew up in the philly area, so i'm familiar with cost of northeast too.
not that hard to live comfortable on $150K if you stick to true "essentials"
i'm actually looking to purchase another property in bucks county if i can get the numbers right.

The problem is that most people won't put that extra money in savings during the year. They will blow it like it is just extra money. At least this way, it comes back in a big lump sum and that makes them think of what they can pay off with that big lump sum.
Oh and I got back 3200+ this year plus the extra that the government will be mailing out in June. Going to school outside of working and having this big ole house mortgage by myself really pays off!!

Getting back 1182 total. Glad to see it's not any higher because I hate letting the government use my money for free for a year. I think it's hilarious when people are excited about a 5k+ return. Think about it. You put that money into even a high interest savings bank. You are looking at 4.5-5% interest or if you have a 401k dump more of your earnings into that. Just a thought for some.

I make it so that I have to pay in every year. Why would I want them to make interest on my money all year long???? There's the misconception that getting a BIG tax return is a good thing. Well, it is a good thing, for the government.
