It is not the government's money to keep. They write the laws as to rates, brackets, what is and what is not taxable, etc. then we determine our liability based on their laws.
If you overpaid thru withholding (or estimated tax payments) you get a refund. If you did not pay enough you owe more money.
If they want additional revenue it is within their power to make that happen, but you can't change the rules in the middle of the game and not expect a backlash.

The best way to "put it into the economy" is to put it in the hands of the taxpayers. Taxpayers are the economy. It is far better in your hands than in the government's hands. The least efficient way to put money into the economy is for it to run through government bureaucracy. Government is the problem, not the solution.
I pay enough to the government....not going to mention numbers because it is probably much more than all of you earn each year (except for Sarge). I try to estimate it to where when it comes time to file, I owe no more nor receive any refund. That's a perfect tax return.

Well as of Taxact.com, looks like me & the wife will be getting a whopping $751 back this year!!! Thanks for the tuition I paid, or I would be owing $150!!!! I wish I was getting more back, but guess it is better than paying them!
