I Had 4:10's With Pretty Stock Motor...once I Got All Bolt Ons It Broke My Limited Slip...then Put An Eaton...then The Gears Broke..so I Went To 3:73's..i Like Them And They Havent Broke Yet...4:10's In The 7.5 Inch 10 Bold Will Break If You Have Power And Dr's..with Stock Tires It Will Spin Like Hell...and More Wheel Hop Will Break Them Also...if You Dont Have A Cam You Will Feel Slower In Third And Fourth...just No Powerband..but When I Get A 12 Bolt It Will Have 4:10's For The Off The Line Punch..and A Big Cam Would Be Perfect.....but If You Have A Mild Cam.3:73's Are Gravy.

Red- 2000 WS6
richmond gears are junk i put a set of 4.10's in my trans am and we have pulled the gears out and installed them 10-15 times and they won't stop whining and making terrible noise. We called richmond and the guy told us that was normal and it won't go away because they don't match there gear sets. He told us that alls you can do is set it right and thats the wayits gunna be. Soi recomend not going with richmond. Go with motive or strange if your gunna buy gears.

Go with a 4.11:1 ratio if at all possible if you're worried about strength. The 4.11 is substantially stronger than the 4.10.

4.10s have a 10:41 tooth ratio.
4.11s have a 9:37 tooth ratio.
Different tooth count creates a different size tooth, and in this case, the teeth on both the pinion and ring gears are larger. I don't have a pic, but if you saw a 4.10 gearset and a 4.11 gearset side by side it would be quite obvious.

Pewter- 2001 Pontiac Trans Am WS6
My 4:10s have quite a whine to them, I forget what brand they are right now. I'm also having trouble running down the track with them. I have a manual 6 speed and I'm running about 12.8 seconds but when I get towards the end of the track I REALLY need to shift into 5th but by the time I would finish the shift and get back on it I would be crossing the line so I would lose alot by shifting. I have been taking it way into the redline, right at the limiter. So I'm in this jam where if I put out anymore power I'm gonna have to shift into 5th or back off a little and stay in 4th but I really, really don't like hitting the limit. I don't know what the hell to do??????

Motive does, but it's confusing. They only list in their catalog a 4.10 gear, not a 4.11. However I've seen several sets that were ordered at 4.10s, and stamped as 4.10s, but counting the teeth reveals a 4.11 gearset. Even stranger, a coworker of mine just bought some Motive 4.10s for his car, and they were in fact 4.10s... Might want to give Motive a call and find out what is what.
Additionally, my 88 S10 has a factory GM Motive gearset. It is a 4.11, stamped as a 4.10.
And to anyone who says a 10 bolt can't take power: I'm making over 400rwhp NA and spraying a 150 shot on top of that at 3700lb raceweight - several 1.6x 60' passes without any problems.

blue metallic- 2000 trans am WS6
not to hijack your thread but im in the same dilema 4.10s or 3.73's. i dont just want to roast the tires with 4.10s and afraid for my rear and trans. but im afraid im going to regret getting 3.73's. can you notice a big diff. with 3.42's going to 3.73's? in an M6 car?
(sorry if i hijacked! )
