I have progressive also and have made claims before...they can be a pain in the ass....they also love to total shit. If there's a lot of underbody damage the price will add up really fast...and they can and will total a vehicle if the damage meets or exceeds 80% of the cars value.
I'm with mad season on this one....claim someone your car was damaged in a parking lot when you were in the a store or something like that. That way you just pay the deductable and it doesn't go against you as a at-fault accident. It's basically your word against no one elses....but they will send out a adjuster so make sure there's not any mud from the ditch on your car. There's no point in shafting yourself for a honest mistake....that's what the insurance company is for
I wouldn't pay it out of pocket though...the estimate the guy gave you is just that, a estimate. Before you know it the damage could total $5,000+....could you afford it then...with your wedding coming and all? Also progressive is smokin crack when they said there's no change because you're turning 25....mine dropped 60 a month when I hit 25.

so put it on ebay as rebuildable with clean title.
I can't believe how people pay top dollar for cars that hardly recognizable.
