if you buy service the motor every 10.000 miles. no ifs ands about it. just stfu and do it.
anther thing to know is Diesels motors are not cheap to work on when they need something done or parts so might want to add that into your pros and cons. and seeing as you know nothing about them im guessing you will always need someone else to work on it which will cost alot.

I'd keep looking for a duramax or get a gasser for now

plus with the price of diesel vs gas right now, you will never 'save' money with a diesel. the fuel mileage doesn't negate the higher cost.

A 6.0 or even a big block will prolly have the same power and mileage as the 6.5 with better reliability. Can't give specifics but all anyone said when I was working at the Chevy dealer is they're a pos

There is no way in hell the big block gasser is going to get the same gas mileage as the 6.5. I drove a 6.5 for a while and was getting mid to high teens freeway. The big blocks on a truck like that will be lucky to get 13mpg with nothing in it.
The 6.5 does seem to have pump issues. Even the remanufactured injector pumps are 1k-1300 bucks.
If I were the OP depending on how much weight I am planning on hauling around I wouldl ook for something with the 6.0 in it.

Cummings are good, transmissions suck and Dodge trucks are rust bucket pieces of shit over all. Have to get the Lariat just to get leather. Ford is plush, King Ranch package is badass but the diesel engines blow. Duramax is good, Allison transmission are good, decent interior. New low sulfur diesel fuel is bad, the emissions particulate filter is a sham and the EPA can kiss my ass. Fucking clown shoes.

Fords in the OPs range can be had with the 7.3 in them. Quite possibly the most reliable diesel from the big three out there. The OP is looking for a work truck/van so lariat and king ranch do not have a place in this discussion, nor does leather. Cloth, cheaper interiors is what he needs.
