thing is the car was running fine no codes or anything. I change the oil pan out and change the PVC valve out and now the codes.... I don't get it lmao but thanks everyone for your reply's I'm going to clean the MAF sensor real good and see what happens.

    Does it really matter?

    Hey everyone,

I have a 2002 3.8 my question is does it really matter if you take the MAF screen out or not? reason I ask is I'm getting codes saying my car is running too lean now.

    Thanks

    Yes it does.

The screen straightens out airflow over the sensors to get accurate readings.

I don't know if you can get the screen/retaining ring separate. My suggestion would be to check your local junkyard.

yea thing is there are no junk years around here that have any fbodys....I already called and checked.
Can't you still get parts for our cars at the dealer? I know it's going to be an arm and a leg but I mean if I need it I have to try and get it....

Go to the parts department at any GM dealer and they can look it up for you.

Did you check at an auto parts store? Advance Auto Parts, Autozone, Pep Boys, NAPA, etc...

The MAF screen is probably the same as the 3800 FWD cars (Grand Prix, Monte Carlo, etc). Junkyard should be full of those.
