If you passed the visual just not the exhaust test then maybe throw some oem spec cats in place of your current ones. Just a suggestion.

Dude, I'm just playing....tried to get a laugh out of you....BUT serious, as someone posted earlier, you just have to live with and abide by the CA smog system. You will waste more time and energy on trying to pass to NO end....Sorry to hear though.....do you still have your STOCK exhaust parts???

New smog news from MAVRICK
whats up my ls1 friends, new news from Maverick I took the car to Nick at Newtech performace who tune my car today, my tune was off, he thought that I did something to the engine we both dint know why my tune was off, If I had to guess when he tune the car on the dyno when I had my headers installed, my air pump was not hooked up, now it is so maybe that thew the tune off?!? What do I know, anyways he riched her back up, I hope that will do it for the smog test, if you been following before, i was passing everything expet for the 15MPH NOx its was a 150 PPM over that max(419PPM max) my mechanic tells me that when the Nox is up the car is running lean, so Nick riched her up today and told me to give it a try I hope 4th time is the charm, wish me luck everyone as before, I am going to drive the car next few days then go smog it,
,
Tune in next time Same Bat time , Same bat Channel

D-Day part 2
GOOD NEWS AND BAD NEWS, the good news ,is I got my best test yet bad news I still failed, 550 ppm nox, I was going to have dmv give me an extention while I save up for new cats I have 200 cells I going to put a 400 or 300 cell, I called nick at newtech he thinks that a cat should do it but he is baffled on why i cant pass is guess is the cats, I kinda think that hold true I was looking at my smog test 2 years ago(note :two years ago I hade mac mid leths, mac y-pipe and random 300 cell cats and the SES light was on and engine miss firing and I pass at 180 PPM,old set up was 2/12in now I have 3in) Slp has a 400 cell at the same size as the 200 cell and i called slp and they dont belive that the cat whould help and that a tune whould do it well the tune was off nick hook up the lap top and now the tune is good, soo will a bigger cell cat do it or should I try 110 octane and if I do 110 octane do i want to do it stiaght up or mixed with 91?? talk to me people we need to keep our LT for LS guys everywhere and mosly for me

I don't think 110 octane will help at all I think your best bet is to get some cats that do a really good job at cleaning the exhaust fumes. Or bribe the person to pass you.

Thats what I am thinking, I called slp they have a 400 cell, but they dont think that will help me to pass, random has a 300 cell, I dont know whitch one I want, the slp are a bigger cell size and cheaper than the randoms but when I had my mid-leths on there I passed two years ago with random 300
slp cats :
$175 each,
Random cats: $225 each, (I just went on Randoms website click on thunder racing and they have the cats on there for $185 I going to call dude at Random to see if I can talk them down!!!)
Also at a muffler shop they have these magnaflow california catalytic converters that are for CA!! down size is there 250 each and only 2.5in but they told me that they can make it fit on my 3in y-pipe
I was reading on random website the the cats meet California ARB requirements, but still illgeal to but for Ca

Your car is not smog legal with long tube. Period point blank. With that being said, your cats are what's stopping you. I'm sure you have high flow slp's which aren't CARB legal. Combined with the lt's you're going to get the readings that you are getting. You MIGHT be able to pass with new OE cats but that will be the only way, and even then you'll probably squeak past. All Longtubes are illegal in CA. they don't come with a CARB sticker or a CARB EO#.

so whitch cats do you think i should get I was thinking the manaflows I think there 400 cells stock is 600 and the manaflows are have a CA carb and a lot chaper than stock 450 each at dealership
I hear you load And clear on the carb numbers on the LT, I just want to seek by this time so next time I have a guy who can take care of me, my mid-leth had no carb number either, and its pass the siffer two years ago with random 300 cell cats hit at 180 ppm on the nox at 15mph yes the LT flow more that mids, but that that much more right???Last edited by Rmaverickz28; 11-03-2010 at 11:58 AM.

Longtubes flow WAY better then mids. That alone can throw off engine tune calibration far enough to not pass the emission sniffer. But sounds like you've already attempted to address that with your local tuner Nick.

In the state of California, you are not allowed to move the cats from the stock position, that is why you failed with long tube headers, if you fail again, your vehicle will be added to the "death list (gross polluter)", and you will have to go to a "state test only" facility EVERY year.

OK GUYS FOR THE LAST TIME I KNOW LT IN CA BECUSE OF MOVEING THE CAT FROM STOCK POSITION I KNEW THAT ONE PAGE AGO I DONT NEED TO BE REMINDED EVERY OTHER GUY WHO READS THIS POST I AM TRYING TO PASS THE SINFFER ONLY I PASS VISUAL, AGAIN I PASSED VISUAL I AM ONLY 110 PPM OVER ON MY NOX , AND THANKS FOR THAT FOR THE TIP BUT THEY TOLD ME YOU ITS DOES NOT MATTER HOW MANY TIMES YOU FAIL ??? IS THIS TRUE I AM AT NUMBER 4?????
I look this up online :
What is a Gross Polluter vehicle?
The Smog Check program has identified Gross Polluter (GP) vehicles as a significant source of smog emissions. Gross Polluter vehicles are chosen through these strategies:
Vehicles tested at licensed stations which exceed at least one of the gross polluter standards (twice the maximum emission limits)
Vehicles selected from the High Emitter Profile (HEP) database which have a high probability of failing the Smog Check inspection.
Once a vehicle is classified or designated as a Gross Polluter it has to initially be tested at a Test Only inspection station. If the vehicle fails this inspection it must undergo repairs and return to a Test only center, State Referee station or a Gold Shield CAP (Consumer Assistance Program) repair center for certification.
Vehicles, which are not classified, as gross polluters, do not have to seek a Test Only inspection and can visit any local smog station. Your DMV paperwork or documents will indicate which type of test your car or vehicle requires.
It is estimated that 50% of the smog in the state of California is produced by motor vehicles. Gross Polluters represent only approximately 10 to 15 percent of all these vehicles, however they are estimated to be responsible for more than half of all vehicle smog emissions.
Gross Polluters pollute much more than a the typical vehicle that fails a Smog Check inspection. The emission level at which a vehicle fails as a Gross Polluter varies according the vehicle type and year. Typically they exceed at least one of the gross polluter standards (twice the maximum emission limits).
Older vehicles are not held to the same emissions standards as newer vehicles. Older vehicles were built to less stringent standards when originally manufactured and thus the smog inspection process is developed with this in mind. The vehicle owner of an older vehicle is given a slight handicap or advantage. They must however up keep their vehicle's maintenance to at least par.
Excessive Smoke: Gross Polluting vehicles will often produce excessive white or black smoke from the tailpipe. This should be a clear indication that your vehicle's engine is in trouble.
Typically a vehicle emitting excessive white or black smoke will be designated as a gross polluter after the smog inspection. It is highly recommend you seek repair assistance prior to getting a smog check or emission test.
Black Smoke: Excessive black smoke from the muffler is almost always due to a rich fuel mixture and will produce high CO, and consequently high HC during the smog check or inspection.
White Smoke: A vehicle emitting excessive white smoke from the tailpipe may have a burned or blown head gasket. A blown head gasket may cause overheating and high NOx emissions. Most often the level of NOx produced will be twice the allowed limit, rendering your vehicle as a gross polluter or HEP.Last edited by Rmaverickz28; 11-04-2010 at 10:02 AM.

I have to go to a test only station every year for all my cars. I'm never given the option of going anywhere else.
