(this is what im assuming happened) your router is setup to be a dhcp server and dynamically assign devices IP addresses.. starting and 192.168.1.2 and so on. if the lease expired the router would give the printer a different IP.. thus rendering you unable to print. you can probably set your router up to give static IPs, which is better in a network anyway... although its not as "easy". this is the other piece of info i found the defualt ip for the printer is 192.0.0.192
Thanks so much you guys for the help so far but this has me baffled...

I tried pasting 192.168.1.2 into my browser window and I got a popup message saying:
"To view this page, you need to log in to area “WRT54G” on 192.168.1.1."

"Your password will be sent in the clear"
then fields for Username and Password...
(BTW, when you say "leave empty" do you mean type those two words or just the leave the field blank?)
but the bummer is everything you suggested and everything I could think of didn't work...

    so here i sit brokenhearted...

well in your browser acctually type.. 192.168.1.1 and it should propt for username and password... now unless you have changed it. default on linksys you dont type anything in the username field, and the password is admin... then you should be in router management. (my reference to 192.168.1.2 was just refering to what IP the router is going to start assigning at. the actual IP of the router should be the 192.168.1.1 which is the one we are concerned with right now) hope that helps.

    thanks man,
you are so helpful. I'll try that tonight when I get home from work.

The problem is, I had the 1-800 Geeksquad come in to help me a few weeks ago with the wireless connection problems and I misplaced that password info...
If that doesn't work, a call to Linksys tech support prolly will. I've called them before and they use the guys from India.

Oh good golly, it's hard to understand those guys but it may be my only option...
    thanks again...

screw calling those idiots at linksys... if you cant find the password. just reset it....

    1. Hold in the Reset button (usually located on the front or back panel) for 30 seconds.
    2. Unplug the power cord to the device and wait for 1 minute.
    3. Plug the power cord back into the device.
    4. This will restore the device's default settings, which includes a default password of admin.
    5. You can now try to access the Setup page again.
