yes..... this is supposed to be a country of freedom...
-government already tax's you, without your say of what the money is used for. (what happend to no taxation without representation)
-now the government will have a indirect way of controlling the type of vehicle you drive. (especially if a government owned company buys out gm, as it is rumored)
doesnt sound much like freedom, sounds more like a socialist government.
Our government should have let the banks fail and let auto makers file bankruptcy.
The only time the government is supposed to step in is: broken labor laws, extortion and monopolies, otherwise it is up to the company to make successful decisions and or fail.

I'm gonna leave this thread alone.....it gets me too worked up over something I have no control over.
I will say that I don't believe it's the governments job to regulate anything. Anything the federal govt. touches instantly turns to shit. They can't regulate themselves much less anyone else. Big govt. is exactly the opposite of what we need. I do believe in free enterprise and if a business sucks it should go out of business but in the case of the big 3 the federal govt. is helping those guys go out of business. The market right now will dictate what mpg is suitable for people. We don't need the govt. setting these high ass standards that will force the auto companies out of business. It almost feels like the federal govt. hopes these guys will go under so they can take control of them. How would you like the govt. to tell you what car to buy because that's only a hop, skip, and jump from where we're at with these cafe regulations. Ok, I'm done with this thread.
