The company I work for has had several rounds of layoffs last year and this year.
Now they've adopted the mandatory furlough approach. Each employee is forced to take two weeks off each quarter. If you have vacation time saved up, you can use that, otherwise, it's time off without pay. All my accrued vacation will be gone by the end of the year.
Cheers,

Yesterday was my first day back after a 3 week layoff. I knew I still had a job after the 3 weeks though. Legally binding. I actually shaked all 3 boss's hands when they layed me and 6 other guys off. They thought that was funny. I was so fuckinghappy do get away. Last monday my company layed off another 7 people. But its just a temp layoff. After they make their way through the whole union list, then they have to start laying off perm.

I've been laid off since last May. I've spent most of my savings plus unemployment.
I haven't been able to land a solid job so I might have to resort to something minimum wage

Yup.
Company laid off just about a third of the work force in Feb, and gave the rest of us a 10% pay cut, while giving us more work since we have to pick up the slack from the laid off people. Also all raises and bonuses are frozen, and we also got a 10% hike in our insurance premiums.
I can deal with the raise/bonus freeze, that makes sense, but I HATE the pay cut. I'd much rather just work 4 hours less a week, since basically now I'm working 4 hours for free.
And yeah, alot of shopping lately at Wal Mart, and I'm also clipping coupons.

Last year the firm I work for had the best year it has ever had, the region I work in had its first $1 Billion year.
That has not stopped them from cutting back on expenses, I arrived at work this morning to find an email detailing the new employee internet usage policy, “Firm is instituting a pay-as-you-go system for personal non-firm related Internet usage. All non-firm related websites visited will be tracked and time spent will be tallied at a rate of $1.39 per hour.”
Guess I’ll be using my I-phone a lot more at work, lol.

I was laid off December 31st from my corporate finance position at D&B, along with 18 other colleagues (out of 40). Company did well for the year, but decided to save a lot of money in 2009 by cutting over 400 heads and cutting new product development - seems like most places are doing the same on the service side of the economy.
The good news is that I was pushed out with 4 months salary, my full bonus, vacation, health insurance, and unemployment; unlike others in other companies who got their vacation only (if they were lucky).
With 10+ years experience and a grad degree I'm not getting any real interviews - just a few recruiter bites here and there. Looks like I will have the year off...

People always ask me if I have found another job and say its easy but if you havent look recently even places like mcdonalds(LOL) are cutting hours. Shit ours isnt 24 hours anymore. Its about damn impossible to find something that will pay the bills. I hate sucking off the government but its either than or go further into debt so fuck that. Hell I havent been unemployed since HS so those bastards can suck it
