Thread: auto or standard?

I would never buy a sports car like an F-Body without a manual transmission.
Sure the auto is better for the strip, but the 6-speed makes the car much more fun to drive on the street

automatic, stall it and call it a day. You can eat a hamburger while your racing.

Dude, sorry, but those cars are WAY high. At least from what Ive been lookin at. I bought a 01 TA with 42k on it all options for 14k. Keep shopping.
Also, I wouldnt have (another) one of these cars with an auto. Ive had 5 now and the fastest of them were both sticks and they were a helluva lot more fun.
Yea, you can stall and be quicker, but GM's 4l60's are an overheating piece.
Warning though: you are more likely to break with a 6spd.
Its just a trade off

its a double edged sword. there is no right answer. if your a professional driver get a manual. if your not and want consistance get an auto. auto's w/ stall are bad ass and with all the new parts for 4l60 E's and 700 R4's there getting them to hold 700 hp. if you go over that and want an auto get a th350 or 400 w/ a gear vendors overdrive but be ready to for out the cash. not sure what t56's are holdin these days. 600?? both have there ups and downs, you cant have everything.

also you could look into 4l80E's if you start puttin down serious power. theres a company that makes a 4l80E called the Bionic Raptor tahts rated for 1200hp i think.

If so, again, no debating...6spds have less drivetrain loss...and if don't believe me, well the dyno doesn't lie.

come on man read the posts it goes both ways, like sid2387 said its like a double edged sword. Dont make assumptions or uneducated statements. personaly ive seen it go both ways theres is no real way to tell. I know that poppin the clutch and doin quarter mile long burnouts is a blast as well as kick ass dognuts, been there done that. And replacing your clutch every three races is also a real blast from the past. but the truth is i can buy a 3500 stall for less than the price of two tires beat the shit out of manual cars all day long all the while keeping consistant ets and chewing on my bigmac. To the original post (buy an auto stall it and enjoy rapeing manuals)

but again, you'll lose more rwhp through an auto... dyno proven 15-20-fact

Autos are convienent. I personally could care less whether or not my ETs are consistent at the track. I dont do it for a living. As long as ur having fun.... If i had to drive it everyday in traffic stick would suck but otherwise i prefer it

I guess a few are missing the point I was tryin to make. I wasn't sayin which is FASTER. In fact I even admitted that top fuelers use auto's rather than manuals for lower ET's....read a little closer next time.
But again, and i'll make it a little easier to read this time, i can't draw a piture so maybe this will help:
PERSONAL PREFERENCE
There's more to racing than going in a straight line.
